From soft pastels to bold blues, Kate Middleton’s Easter Sunday outfits have varied in colour and style over the years.
I thought we’d take a look at every ensemble she’s worn to Easter services since joining the Royal Family—handy inspiration for your own spring occasion
One thing that struck me: since attending her first Easter service with the Royal Family at Windsor in 2017, the Princess of Wales hasn’t debuted a single new outfit on Easter Sunday. She’s kept that tradition going this year, too.
Instead, Kate’s relied on trusted favourites from her wardrobe, often freshening them up with new accessories or sentimental jewellery.
Her only other Easter Sunday appearance before Windsor was back in 2014, during the royal tour of Australia — and that one did feature a brand new ensemble. Let’s start there.
2014 – Easter Down Under
Let’s start at the beginning, Kate’s Easter Sunday debut in 2014. The public appearance took place during the couple’s first official visit to Australia.
The pair attended an Easter morning service at St Andrew’s Cathedral. Kate wore a dove grey funnel neck coat by Alexander McQueen over a matching dress by the same designer. She also wore a bespoke Jane Taylor hat. This is the only time she’s worn a ‘new’ ensemble on Easter Sunday, never previously seen in public.
She finished her look with grey suede pumps by L.K. Bennett, a grey box clutch also by Alexander McQueen, a white gold necklace by Mappin & Webb and a pair of unidentified diamond-and-aquamarine drop earrings.
Later, William and Kate visited Taronga Zoo with Prince George. The Princess changed into a primrose-yellow broderie anglaise dress by an independent designer – a piece she had first worn during the 2012 royal tour.
She dressed down for the zoo by pairing the dress with her Stuart Weitzman ‘Minx’ cork platform wedges.
Her accessories added a sunny finishing touch: the ‘Citrine Drop‘ earrings by Kiki McDonough and a gold ‘Woodland’ charm necklace by Asprey. The perfect Easter look!

2017 – First Easter At Windsor
Next, let’s jump forward to 2017, the next time we saw William and Kate on Easter Sunday.
The couple attended their first Easter Sunday service with the Royal Family at Windsor Castle.
Kate recycled a previous outfit for the occasion, which becomes an Easter tradition, as you’ll come to see.
The Princess re-wore her custom Catherine Walker coat from the 2016 Canada tour. Underneath, we could see her white Whistles ‘Lina’ pleated skirt, a piece dating back to 2011.
Kate topped her outfit with the Lock & Co. ‘Jacqueline’ pillbox hat in a matching cream tone.
She wore her Rupert Sanderson ‘Malory’ pumps and carried a coordinating woven clutch by a Polish brand,Etui bags.
The Princess finished her look with some jewellery loaned from Queen Elizabeth, a pair of diamond-and-pearl drop earrings.
2018 – Heavily Pregnant in Brown
In 2018, when just three weeks away from giving birth to Prince Louis, Kate joined the Royal Family for the Easter Service at Windsor. It was her last public engagement before going on maternity leave.
As you can see, she strayed from the springtime pastels worn in previous years, choosing a rich chocolate-brown ensemble instead.
Kate had worn the bespoke Catherine Walker coat before, on St Patrick’s Day in 2015 while pregnant with Princess Charlotte.
Her brown pillbox hat was by Lock & Co., the brand’s ‘Betty Boop’ style.
Kate accessorised the coat with contrasting beige accessories–shoes by Gianvito Rossi and a lizard-effect cream leather clutch by Loeffler-Randall.
She finished the look with her Balenciaga faux-pearl clip-on earrings and a coordinating (but not matching) pearl cluster brooch.
2019 – Earlier Easter Ensemble Repeated
This year, Easter coincided with Queen Elizabeth’s 93rd birthday. The then-Duchess repeated yet another outfit:
Kate re-wore her 2014 Easter church outfit from Sydney (pictured at the top of this list) – the funnel neck McQueen coat and Jane Taylor hat.
This time, however, she switched the accessories and jewellery. She updated the look by wearing her ‘Rebecca pumps‘ and ‘Natasha clutch‘, both in Steel Grey suede, and both from Emmy London.
She opted for oak leaf and acorn-themed jewels with this outfit, rewearing her Robinson Pelham earrings from her wedding day in 2011.
The delicate drops (a wedding gift from her parents) were a sentimental choice, coming just days before her and William’s 8th anniversary.
A coordinating brooch finished the look and echoed the earrings’ motif. Unfortunately, nothing more is known about this piece.
2022 – Coordinated Pastels
The next public Royal Family Easter Service took place in 2022, following a hiatus due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Easter 2022 marked a gentle return to tradition, and the first time William and Kate brought their children to Easter service.
The ‘Cambridge’ family (as they were then known) attended Easter Mattins at St. George’s Chapel along with other royals – though the Queen, due to mobility issues, did not attend.
Prince George (8) and Princess Charlotte (6) made their Easter service debut, adorably coordinated in blue outfits like their parents. Their little brother, Prince Louis (3), stayed home.
Kate wore a pastel blue coat dress, by Emilia Wickstead, featuring Wickstead’s signature fit-and-flare full-skirted silhouette. The then-Duchess first wore this bespoke piece in 2017 during a visit to Luxembourg, keeping with her Easter trend of rewearing favourites.
She wore her Jane Taylor ‘Diamond Crepe Pleated Halo’ headband in a matching shade of light blue. This padded halo-style headband (almost like a half-hat) had been seen once before, at a church service in early 2019.
Kate debuted a new Emmy London ‘Natasha’ clutch in Duck Egg blue, and finished the ensemble with a darker blue pair of ‘Rebecca‘ pumps by the same designer.
Kate chose pearl studs for Easter 2022, the Cassandra Goad ‘Cavolfiore’ earrings. These are cluster studs of pearls in a floral design.
2023 – First Easter as Princess of Wales
Easter 2023 was a landmark: the first under King Charles III’s reign, and Kate’s first Easter as the Princess of Wales.
The entire Wales family (William, Kate, and all three children) attended the service at Windsor, with Prince Louis, now 4, making his Easter debut by walking hand-in-hand with his parents.
The family coordinated in shades of blue, while Kate stood out by also breaking a small royal convention – sporting bright red nail polish with her outfit (royal women tend to opt for neutral nails at engagements).
The Princess wore a striking cobalt blue coat dress by Catherine Walker & Co.
This bespoke coat dress (with velvet blue collar trim, flap pockets, and large buttons) was a repeat – Kate had previously worn it at the Commonwealth Day service in 2022.
Catherine Walker is one of Kate’s go-to designers for coatdresses, and this bold blue number was an eye-catching choice for Easter. Some thought it was a conscious decision, a departure to signal her new elevated status as ‘Princess’. To signal a new era.
Kate’s matching blue pillbox hat was by Lock & Co. We saw the Emmy London ‘Natasha’ clutch again, this time in coordinating cobalt suede.
In a fashion-forward move, the Princess wore contrasting neutral-toned heels to balance the all-blue look. On her feet were Gianvito Rossi 105 suede pumps in ‘praline’, a light pinky-beige taupe.
She finished the look with a mixture of historic and modern jewellery pieces, the Carousel Jewels ‘Stella’ earrings with lapis lazuli and moonstone, and the Princess of Wales Feathers brooch—a royal heirloom associated with her new title.
2026 – Kate Returns in Cream Self-Portrait
After missing the Easter service in both 2024 and 2025 while focusing on her cancer treatment and recovery, Kate returned to St George’s Chapel in 2026, joined by William and all three children.
The Princess kept her rewear streak alive, choosing her cream ‘Lace Detail Midi Dress’ by Self-Portrait. The structured blazer-style design, with its notch lapel, peplum waist and intricate lace appliqué across the bodice, was first worn in 2022 at a joint engagement with Princess Anne.
Kate topped the dress with a new Juliette Botterill teardrop-shaped hat in a matching cream tone — the only new element in the outfit. The hat features delicate fabric oak leaf appliqués, a nod to the Middleton family coat of arms.
For jewellery, the Princess chose the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings from the Royal Collection — a pair she’s now worn on 20 public occasions — and her diamond-set cross pendant necklace.
She carried her DeMellier Nano Montreal bag in Deep Toffee Smooth and wore her Ralph Lauren Celia pumps in ‘Gold Brown’, both well-established favourites.
