17th March 2018—To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the 1st Battalion Irish Guards at their Barracks in Hounslow.
The couple watched a special St. Patrick’s Day parade before presenting shamrocks to officers.
Kate pinned a sprig to the coat of the Irish Guards’ mascot, Domhnall the dog.
Each year, over 400 soldiers march in their ceremonial red tunics, led by the Band of the Irish Guards.
The parade often concludes with a march-past. William, the Royal Colonel of the Irish Guards receives the salute.
Kate follows a long line of Royal ladies performing the duty. Queen Alexandra began the tradition in 1901.
This is the sixth time Kate has attended the parade since 2012.
