Kate attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, 18th May 2022. The Duchess looked radiant in a deep coral coat dress by Emilia Wickstead (full outfit details below ⬇️).
The Queen hosts four garden parties each summer: three at Buckingham Palace and one at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland.
The Garden Parties are a way for the Queen to recognise, reward and celebrate public service.
Garden Parties restarted this month after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
This is the eighth garden party Kate has attended to date.
The Duchess attended the garden party with Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, plus Princess Alexandra.
At 4pm, the four royals emerged from the Palace and joined the crowd—usually around 8,000 guests!
Typically, guests form into “lanes” or “corridors” and the royals walk up and down, stopping to chat with as many people as they can.
Kate’s pink outfit at the garden party:
The Duchess wore a coral coat dress by Emilia Wickstead. It’s new (to us, we haven’t seen her wear it before.). It’s a bespoke piece, created for Kate by the designer.
The knee-length coat dress features long sleeves, waistband, peak lapel and a full skirt with large soft pleats.
The duchess owns the same design in two other shades, sky blue and deep bottle green (shown below during the visit to Luxembourg in 2017 and during the Irish Guard’s St Patrick’s Day parade in 2012.)
Kate paired the pretty pink frock with accessories we’ve seen on other occasions. Her hat is the Lyssa style by Jane Taylor (RRP £998). Described by the milliner as “fabulously flamboyant”, the pink straw hat is topped with pleats made from abaca fabric.
The Lyssa hat comes in tonal pink, as worn by Kate, and four other colour options. Or contact the company to commission a custom piece to match your outfit.
Kate wore it with a pink Alexander McQueen dress to Trooping the Colour in 2017.
Kate wore her Kiki McDonough Cushion Drop earrings in either pink morganite (£2,300) or white topaz (£1,400). Both pairs of earrings are set with white gold and hang from diamond hoops.
Kate carried her Bags by Josef beaded floral/embroidered clutch. The vintage piece dates to around the 1930s-1940s. (There’s a very similar clutch on the 1stDibs website here with this information).
Antiquepeek.com sold a similar clutch. They state the piece features Tambour Embroidery in the Point de Beauvais stitch.
A couple of vintage sellers on ETSY have similar designs in stock at the time of writing. Try this beaded butterfly clutch for only £30. This beaded floral/butterfly design is lovely too, at £48. This fan-detailed clutch is a bit pricier at £137, but ideal for a special occasion like a wedding (or garden party!)
Kate’s shoes are by Emmy London. They’re the Rebecca style in suede. Kate wears the colour ‘Makeup”.
Emmy London call the pink shade “uplifting and luxurious”, and a “beautiful cosmetic tone [that] is flattering to all skin types and works perfectly with many outfit shades.” The pointed court shoes feature a foot-flattering tall straight heel. RRP: £415.
All of Emmy London’s shoes are made-to-order, so allow four weeks for delivery.
Our longtime readers will know that Kate owns the Rebecca shoe in a handful of different colours—they’re one of her go-to styles.
G.A. says
I have read comments that Kate has too many fashion items in the same style. Also, some feel this coral washes out Kate’s skin tone. I disagree, because I think this color and shade, works better than the Trooping the Color pink she wore in 2017.
If you look at the still pics and the video, the coat dress has a very tidy look because the fit is perfect, the fabric doesn’t have any wrinkles and the dress stays in place. Sometimes Sophie wears floral dresses with soft fabrics and a fabric self-tie belt and they can get a little messy looking in photographs. I like Sophie, but I think they both look better in structured looks.
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed how amazing Kate’s posture has become? Yoga? Amazing!
