Trooping the Colour

Trooping the Colour is a celebration held in June each year to officially commemorate The Queen’s birthday. The celebration is also known as The Queen’s Birthday Parade.

The Queen’s actual birthday is 21st April, but it has long been traditional to celebrate the Sovereign’s birthday publicly in the summer. This is because good weather is more likely.

The celebrations really are the dictionary definition of pomp and pageantry. Various military bands play music for The Queen, the Royal Family, guests and onlookers. The Queen leads a procession to Buckingham Palace, where the family watch a “flyover” conducted by members of the Royal Air Force.
