Kate Middleton shared a heartfelt update about her cancer treatment on Monday (9th September 2024).
The Princess of Wales posted an emotional and personal video to her social media accounts, announcing that she’s now completed her course of chemotherapy. In the three minute clip, she speaks of her relief and gratitude following nine difficult months for her and her family.
The slickly edited video, shot and produced by filmmaker Will Warr, shows Catherine reflecting on the sudden and life-altering challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis. She describes the journey as complex, scary, and unpredictable.
She emphasises how the experience brought her face-to-face with her vulnerabilities and offered her a new perspective on life. She also expressed a deep gratitude for the simple yet important things, like love and family.
Now focused on staying cancer-free, the Princess acknowledges that while her chemotherapy is finished, her path to full recovery is ongoing and she is committed to taking things one day at a time.
She shared her excitement about gradually returning to public duties in the coming months. The Princess will make a gradual return to limited public duties, which will not be announced beforehand. Roya Nikkhah, Royal Editor of The Sunday Times, confirms that Kate aims to participate in key events like the Remembrance Sunday Cenotaph service in November, and her Christmas carol service in December.
Kate concluded the video by thanking the public for their outpouring of support and compassion, and she expressed solidarity with others going through their own cancer battles, offering hope and encouragement, reminding them that “out of darkness, can come light.”
The video, which showed the Princess with her husband, three children and parents, was largely set outdoors with warm, golden lightning which created a soft, natural and intimate feel.
We see several tender and intimate moments shared by Catherine, Princess of Wales, and her family. During one part of the film, Catherine lies on the sand as Prince William playfully kisses her neck.
Another moment captures the couple laughing together in a candid, playful way. A touching shot shows Catherine walking hand-in-hand with her children, holding hands with William and the pair smiling at one another and exchanging loving glances.
The video gives us a rare glimpse into the Wales’s family life, and on family moments. Some of the footage has been edited to look like a home movie.
As this is a fashion blog, I’ll provide a brief overview of Kate’s two outfits in the video. The bohemian-style dress is by Veronica Beard. It features a blue, yellow and green floral block print design on an ivory background.
It’s mid-length with a flowing silhouette, n-neckline, tiered skirt and puffed sleeves. Thanks to Laura @Japanese_Ginger for the ID.
The second dress, a blue shirt dress, is still unidentified. It features a tie-waist belt, collar and short sleeves. Update: the dress has been identified as a past season H&M L.O.G.G piece.
Kate paired both frocks with her favourite white Veja Esplar sneakers:
Kate owns them in the colour ‘platine’, which refers to the metallic rose gold colour on the V logo and heel area:
The Princess debuted the popular VEJA sneakers during a visit to Scotland in 2021. They are made from leather, they feature a round toe, a lace-up vamp, a cushioned footbed and a rubber sole. They can be purchased from a few places, including Net-A-Porter.
It looks like the Princess is wearing her gold Midnight Moon Necklace by Daniella Draper too.
The necklace is crafted from 100% recycled solid 9ct yellow gold and set with three sparkly diamonds. Kate’s has her three children’s names engraved on the front.
Kate’s owned the charming necklace since at least 2020.
Kiki McDonough confirmed the Princess wore their Green Amethyst Pear Drop Earrings in the video.
The simple and elegant earrings feature a pear drop green amethyst set in 18ct yellow gold.
Kate debuted the green gemstone earrings last year, during a visit to Nuneaton. They retail for £695 at kiki.co.uk.
Kate’s famous sapphire engagement ring is missing from her finger in the video, but three other rings are present:
She’s wearing her Welsh gold wedding band, her Annoushka Eclipse eternity band and a newer ring, first spotted last month in the video shot to support Team GB at the Paris Olympic Games. We’ve yet to see a high-quality image of the ring, but from the video clips we’ve seen so far, it looks like it is gold with light and dark stones.
During the Olympics, media outlets reported that Kate brought back her rarely-seen garnet and pearl ring, thought to be a promise ring gifted to the Princess by William approximately 20 years ago. The Princess last wore the ring in public in 2013. The Court Jeweller, however, disagreed and notes that the two rings are different: “This newer ring is slimmer and stacks more elegantly with Kate’s other rings”. I suspect it will remain unidentified until we see clearer images.

I’d love to see a better image of that beautiful new ring. I love the more casual ring stack for her. I’d imagine she doesn’t wear the engagement ring all day every day. The casual stack looks gorgeous.
