As part of the royal tour of North America, William and Kate visited Los Angeles.  The couple arrived at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday July 8th 2011, and were met by British Ambassador Sir Nigel Sheinwald, California Gov. Jerry Brown and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Kate was presented with a posy of red, white and blue flowers.

The royal couple attended a conference connected to the future of “Tech City”, that’s Britain’s answer to Silicon Valley.  Tech City is a cluster of technology, digital and creative companies based around the Shoreditch and Old Street areas of East London. It is the fastest growing technology hub in Europe and it is second only to Silicon Valley. The conference is part of UK Trade & Investments overall strategy to encourage overseas companies and venture capitalists to invest in Tech City and elsewhere in the UK. (source)

Kate’s outfit:

Kate wore wonderful dress by London-based designer Roksanda Ilincic. It’s described as ‘blue-grey’ officially, but it looks more purple to me.

Specifically, Kate’s wearing Roksana Ilincic’s “Peridot Dress.”  On Net-A-Porter.com, the piece is called the “Peridot Draped Wool Crepe Dress.”

The piece features draped neck detailing, cap sleeves, pleats, a tulle neckline and a full length zipper at the back.  It was sold with a grosgrain front tie in a beige-pink colour, though Kate has not kept this original detail on her dress.

Net-A-Porter.com described the Peridot dress as follows:

Roksanda Ilincic’s elegantly draped wool-crepe dress is a chic choice for a lunch or dinner date. Add edge to this ladylike piece with bronze sandals and a statement cuff.

The dress originally retailed for £815 at Matches Fashion but was reduced to £570 in 2011. It came in a range of colours, including coral, navy blue, a brighter blue and turquoise green.
