Kate in Christopher Kane coat dress for the Queen’s first Garden Party of 2017

On the 16th May 2017, Kate attended her first garden party of the season.  She joined the Queen, other members of the Royal Family and 8,000 guests in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.

During the visit, Kate chatted with Garden Party attendee Andrew Bates and his wife, Janet, about her sister Pippa’s wedding.  According to Mr Bates, Kate said she was really looking forward to the event, but slightly nervous about how her children would behave on the day.

Mr Bates has worked on the sound for the Queen’s speech and a number of other major royal events over the past 28 years.

For the Buckingham Palace garden party, Kate chose a blue satin coat dress from Scottish designer Christopher Kane.

As you may recall, Kate first debuted the belted coat dress for the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.

At the time, the Telegraph described the coat as an “ice-blue eau de nil satin fitted coat dress”. It is likely the coat is bespoke – a one-off created at Kate’s request.  However, if you’re looking for something similar, you may be pleased to know that Christopher Kane has recently released a new blue jacquard satin coat as part of his “Beauty and the Beast” capsule collection (see below).  It retails for £3,495 GBP (around $4,530 USD).  Shop it here.

Kate paired the Christopher Kane coat with her “Sweet Delight” hat by Sylvia Fletcher for John Lock & Co.

The woven straw hat originally retailed for £875 at lockhatters.co.uk.   She first debuted the hat during the 2014 Garter Day ceremony.

Kate accessorised with her blue topaz, diamond and 18ct white gold pair of earrings by Kiki McDonough.  The £3,500 ($4,536) earrings are available to order by phone or email – details here.  You may recall that Kate first debuted the earrings during the Luxembourg visit earlier in the month.

Kate chose her Gianvito Rossi 105 suede pumps for the garden party.  She owns the shoes in four different colours.  The designer’s official name for the colour Kate’s is wearing (shown below) is Praline.  The shoes can be purchased from Selfridges.com for £470 (or a similar colour can be purchased at Net-A-Porter.com for $670 USD).

Finally, Kate debuted a new clutch bag for the garden party (new to us, at least.  She’s never carried it to a public event before).  It appears to be cream in colour with a beautiful, interacted embroidered design.

We currently have no idea where the pretty clutch bag is from.
