During the 2022 Caribbean Tour, William and Kate visited The Bahamas. For their first set of engagements in the country, Kate wore a fresh mint green dress by Self Portrait (more on that further down the page ⬇).
The couple’s first visit took place at Sybil Strachan Primary School, in Nassau, the country’s capital city. The Duke and Duchess took part in a special assembly. The school used an online learning platform to virtually connect all schools across The Bahamas together. The Duke and Duchess spoke with schoolchildren who had been learning remotely for two years during the pandemic.
The Duchess also delivered a speech at the school. Her first and only speech of the tour. You can watch it in full in the video below:
Later, the pair changed venues for a small reception with key workers who have worked tirelessly through the pandemic. About the engagement, via Hello Magazine:
The reception, which included nurses, vaccination workers, representatives from the Bahamas Red Cross and the Salvation Army and more, was a chance for the royals to hear about the key workers’ experience on the frontline in the Bahamas and also to thank them for keeping their communities safe.
Kate spoke to medical staff from the Princess Margaret Hospital about the relationship between physical and mental fitness. Dr Thomas Smith said: “We are seeing a bigger need for those types of services, especially in a community setting. It’s been tough mentally on many people. “Our services really are from cradle to grave so we cater for everyone but it’s important to recognise a need for those community relations as well.”
Kate agreed, saying: “That’s so right. We have to look after our mental fitness as well as the physical side. I think people recognise that more and more. This is the perfect opportunity to have that conversation – and early intervention is really important too.”
Hello
The visit was due to take place outside but had to take place under a marquee due to the rain.
After, William and Kate braved the showers to conduct a walkabout and watch a Junkanoo street festival.
The traditional cultural parade featured colourful outfits, dancing and music.
Video footage of the walkabout—I think you can hear a thunderstorm in the background at around 13 seconds in!
Kate’s outfit:
The Duchess chose a mint green dress by London-based label Self-Portrait. (Thank you to Middleton Maven for quickly identifying the dress.)
The mid-length dress is made from a green chiffon fabric. The bodice features pin-tucks and sculpting seams on the bust. There is also sculpting detail at the hips. The A-line skirt falls into soft pleats. The dress has short cuffed sleeves and a faux-pearl button-down front with a v-neckline. The pin-tucked waistband creates a flatting silhouette.
The Duchess swapped the faux pearl buttons for fabric-covered buttons (noted by What Kate Wore):

Kate wore a pair of gold earrings designed by Nadia Campbell, a jewellery designer from The Bahamas. They’re the “Maya” style in 14K gold-plated silver. The large hoop statement earrings are from Nadia’s Gorgonians collection, which is inspired by the cast of a sea fan (a type of coral).
Ms Campbell describes her jewellery as “informed largely by her love of all things Bahamian”. The ocean and the coast both inspire her work.
The $75 earrings quickly sold out after Kate was pictured wearing them. They’ll be restocked on the 15th of April 2022.
Kate wore a pair of white pumps with her green dress. They’re the Jimmy Choo Romy pumps in white. The Italian-made shoes feature a pointed toe and an 85mm heel. For added comfort, the shoes are leather lined and installed with a leather sole.
We first spotted the Duchess wearing the white heels in 2021, at Wimbledon. You’ll note Kate paired the shoes with a green dress on that occasion too:
The Romy pumps are a signature style for Jimmy Choo, stocked season after season in various colours. At the time of writing, the ROMY 85 shoes aren’t available to buy in white. However, there are 18 other styles.
G.A. says
A big round of applause for the two adorable little girls greeting the Duchess in the Bahamas. Darling little Aniah Moss looked lovely in her blush dress and was sartorially perfect from head to toe. And this cutie (above greeting Kate) is so sweet. So young, and given a big center-stage assignment, and they both handled themselves impressively with a crowd watching the greeting. Well done!
I think William and Catherine have handled themselves admirably through a somewhat tricky tour. I bet they are looking forward to returning to England, to be in their own home and back with their three children. It seems like a long week.
Kate looked lovely on this tour. I thought her clothing was appropriate, there were some real wow moments and everything seemed perfectly tailored It must be my imagination, but her posture has been wonderful in those 4″ heels she has worn frequently this tour. My guess is yoga or something similar.
Canada was my favorite Cambridge tour, followed by Australia with Prince George, but this one was up there as a good tour for the couple.
