Who designs Kate Middleton's gowns? Where does she buy her evening dresses? UPDATED: 2022
Kate's worn some sensational gowns over the last eleven years. She tends to favour the following designers: Jenny Packham, Alexander McQueen, Temperley London and Erdem.
We've also seen her in multiple dresses by Self Portrait, Preen By Thornton Bregazzi and Roland Mouret. Amanda Wakeley.
Kate's Five Best Gowns (According To Me!)
Kate has worn some iconic gowns on the red carpet over the last ten years. Don't get me wrong: every single gown she's worn since joining the Royal Family has been beautiful (the Duchess rarely puts a foot wrong when it comes to fashion), but from time to time, one of her dresses will REALLY stand out. I call these her 'showstopping looks.' I will argue that these iconic gowns are some of the best she's ever worn, they've 'broken out' of royal-watching circles and into the mainstream, generating a lot of buzz on the way. These are the gowns that have earned front-page headlines, trended on Twitter and garnered multiple column inches for the Duchess, etc.
So, let's take a quick look at what I think are her five best gowns:
1.) Of course, the sparkling golden gown Kate wore to the James Bond No Time To Die premiere has to be the first choice. This gown was part of a special collaboration by Jenny Packham and the 007 franchise. This was the first gown we'd seen Kate wear in a couple of years due to the pandemic. It has been called one of her 'best ever' looks by some media outlets—and I have to agree.
2) The second is another Packham piece, the Aspen gown in teal. Kate chose this for the Olympic Gala in 2012 (she wore it again to the Tusk Awards in 2018). The stunning floor-length dress features a unique, ornate lace back.
3) The third is also by Jenny Packham (noticing a theme here?). It's a pearlescent light pink gown covered in Swarovski Crystals from top-to-toe. Kate wore it to the Ark Gala in 2011. This is the first gown-worthy engagement Kate attended after marrying Prince William. I remember a group of us camping out on Twitter, waiting to see what she'd wear. We weren't disappointed. (She also wore the gown again to the exclusive A Taste of Norfolk gala in 2016—this was a private event, not a public engagement).
4) This is my fourth favourite gown. It's a pink ombre design by Gucci. She wore it to the 100 Women in Finance gala dinner in 2018. This dress made headlines because it was very Disney Princess!
5) I've got to include the red sequinned Aurora Dress by Needle & Thread. I've always loved this bold, cherry-coloured evening dress. Kate wore it to the UK-Africa Investment Summit in 2020. At only £435 / $669, this is probably the most affordable gown we've ever seen her wear. (Most of her designer gowns cost 3x the price of this!).
