Scarpa Terra GTX Hiking Boots in Brown

Kate Middleton owns Scarpa’s Terra GTX hiking boots in brown—a classic all-leather, waterproof walking boot from the Italian mountain footwear specialist.

The Princess debuted the boots in July 2026, in the family photos released after she completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in aid of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

It was her first public outing in Scarpa—and quite the vote of confidence in the boots, given the challenge involved summiting Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours.

About the boots:

The Terra GTX is one of Scarpa’s longest-standing designs—a traditional leather walking boot the brand describes as its tried-and-true classic, updated over the years with modern midsole construction for better support and stability.

The upper is 2mm water-resistant full-grain leather with a nubuck collar and gusset, lined with a GORE-TEX membrane to keep feet dry in properly wet conditions.

Underneath, there’s a Vibram outsole with XS Trek rubber for grip across mixed terrain, and a PU midsole moulded directly onto the upper for cushioning and stability.

Two things come up again and again in reviews: the boots are comfortable straight out of the box with barely any breaking in, and the fit runs slightly narrow, particularly in the toe—worth knowing if you have wider feet.

One reviewer wore a single pair for an entire Appalachian Trail thru-hike, which tells you rather a lot about their durability.

Where to buy:

The Terra GTX retails for £210 in the UK and $259 in the US.

A word of warning: at the time of writing, Scarpa’s US site is showing only four units left, with several sizes already sold out—the Kate effect working quickly, it seems. UK stock is in better shape:

The boots use European sizing (36–42 in half sizes), so do check Scarpa’s size chart before ordering.

Kate Middleton and Scarpa:

The Three Peaks Challenge marked the Princess’s first public wear of Scarpa—one of two brand debuts in the same set of photos, alongside The North Face.

It’s a telling choice: Scarpa is a specialist’s brand, better known among serious hillwalkers than fashion followers, which suggests the boots were chosen on merit rather than for the label.

Given how much of the Wales family’s off-duty life happens outdoors, I suspect these boots will quietly rack up plenty of miles we never see.

About Scarpa:

Scarpa was founded in 1938 in Asolo, in the foothills of the Italian Dolomites, and remains family-owned. The name is an acronym as well as the Italian word for “shoe”—Società Calzaturiera Asolana Riunita Pedemontana Anonima—and the brand has spent nearly ninety years making mountain footwear, from hiking and mountaineering boots to climbing shoes and ski boots. Its boots are made in Europe, and the brand has a strong repair-and-resole culture, with an emphasis on footwear that lasts decades rather than seasons.
