The Princess of Wales wears the grey checked ‘Schoolboy’ trousers by Bella Freud (RRP £525) as part of a suit.

She debuted the look during a visit to two textile mills in September 2025.
In October 2025, she wore the suit again, restyling it with a grey sweater and a half-up-half-down hairstyle during a visit to RAF Coningsby:

Who says suits have to be boring? The Princess looked sleek and stylish in the grey checked design.
Effortless elegance, I’d say. I love this suit, I hope she wears it on repeat. I’d like to see her style it with grey heels and a pink sweater. Or, wear it casually with sneakers and a white tee.
About the suit trousers:
The mid-rise trousers feature a straight leg.
Bella Freud chose the name ‘schoolboy’ because the style is reminiscent of a schoolboy’s dress code.
Kate selected the trouser suit in the “Prince of Wales check”, a woven pattern that combines small and large checks—also known as Glen plaid.

The back of the trousers:

The Princess paired the Schoolboy trousers with Bella Freud’s matching ‘Earl’ blazer, creating a streamlined two-piece that was sharp without feeling overly corporate.

The cut of the suit is slim, sharp, but not overly masculine—and very polished.
Can I buy the suit trousers?
Sadly, not. Last time I browsed Bella Freud’s website, the trousers had sold out.
The schoolboy design is available in grey herringbone, though, which makes a fantastic alternative:
