Kate Middleton owns La Ligne’s Striped Featherweight Sweater Vest—a sleeveless, Breton-striped knit in black and white.

The Princess debuted the top on the 1st August 2026 at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. She layered it under a dark green Ralph Lauren blazer with a pleated white midi skirt—the featherweight knit was ideal for exactly this kind of layering, and the classic nautical stripe struck just the right relaxed, summery note for a family day at the sport.

It’s a first piece from La Ligne for the Princess—a new label in her wardrobe. Though the Breton stripe isn’t a new addition—that is about as on-brand for Kate as it gets! She owns a whole raft of striped tops!
About the top:
The featherweight sweater vest is sleeveless with a crew neck and neat ribbed trim at the edges.
Despite the “sweater” name, it’s a fine, lightweight knit rather than anything cosy, which is what makes it such an easy layering piece under a jacket.
It’s cut from a cashmere-blend yarn (around 80% cashmere with a touch of spandex for stretch and recovery), so it’s soft and holds its shape. Kate’s wears the black-and-white colourway.
Where to buy:
Kate’s exact top is sold out—it’s no longer available on La Ligne’s own site or at Shopbop, where it previously sold.
The stripe is La Ligne’s whole reason for being, though, so if you’re after the look, the brand carries plenty of similar Breton knits year-round:
- La Ligne — Breton stripes and striped sweaters for the closest alternatives.
- La Ligne is also stocked at Shopbop and elysewalker, worth a look for restocks or comparable styles.
For reference, La Ligne’s striped knits typically sit in the region of £200–£300 / $250–$325.
Kate Middleton and La Ligne:
This is Kate’s first piece from La Ligne—a brand debut.
I imagine she’ll return to the label. I had a little look at their offering, and I think it’s very much within her wheelhouse. I could see her wearing so many of their pieces.
About La Ligne:
La Ligne—French for “the line”—is a New York label founded in 2016 by former fashion editors Meredith Melling and Valerie Macaulay, built around a single idea: the stripe.
“La Ligne” takes the Breton and runs with it across knitwear, tops, dresses and denim.
The brand is best known for its knitwear, particularly the much-loved Marin sweater, and has built a following for elevated, timeless striped pieces designed to last well beyond a single season.
