The dinner was held for the Prime Minister of South Africa who is currently in the UK on a state visit.
Kate wore a bespoke version of Jenny Packham’s Elspeth gown from the designer’s 2021 Bridal Collection. Two key features of Kate’s gown show it is bespoke (created just for Kate, rather than off the rack).
First, the keyhole back. The bridal gown features an open back. Photos of Kate’s reflection in a mirror shows her gown omits this detail:
The beading is the second detail. The beading on Kate’s gown is more tightly packed. On the ready-to-wear gown, the embellishment is more sparse.
About the Elspeth gown:
Brides Magazine listed the Elspeth as a “non-traditional wedding dress” that had “ice princess at her winter wonderland wedding” vibes.
They rightly noted that Jenny Packham “packs the drama” with the Elsbeth, particularly with the cut-out back and structured beaded shoulders. The beading consists of delicate floral embellishments that sparkle along the cape sleeves.
